About Stud earrings

Stud earrings have been a popular form of jewellery for centuries, and their history is both rich and fascinating. The earliest forms of stud earrings date back to ancient civilizations such as the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. Over time, stud earrings have evolved in terms of design, materials used, and cultural significance.

The earliest forms of stud earrings can be traced back to ancient Egypt. The Egyptians were known for their love of jewellery and wore earrings as a symbol of wealth and social status. Stud earrings were particularly popular among Egyptian women, who would wear them as a sign of their femininity. The earliest examples of stud earrings from ancient Egypt were made from gold, silver, and precious stones such as lapis lazuli, turquoise, and carnelian.

In ancient Greece and Rome, stud earrings were also popular among women. However, they were not as common as other types of earrings, such as hoop earrings. Greek and Roman stud earrings were often made from gold, silver, and bronze, and were adorned with gems and pearls.

During the Middle Ages, stud earrings fell out of fashion as large, elaborate earrings became more popular. It wasn't until the Renaissance that stud earrings made a comeback. During this period, stud earrings were often designed as a single pearl or gemstone set in gold or silver. They were worn by both men and women and were seen as a sign of wealth and social status.

In the 20th century, stud earrings became a popular fashion accessory for women. They were often made from inexpensive materials such as plastic and glass and came in a variety of colors and designs. In the 1960s and 1970s, stud earrings became larger and more elaborate, reflecting the bold and experimental fashion of the time.

Today, stud earrings remain a popular form of jewellery for both men and women. They are often made from a variety of materials, including gold, silver, and precious stones, as well as more affordable options such as cubic zirconia and stainless steel. Stud earrings can be worn as a subtle and understated accessory or as a statement piece to complement a bold outfit.

Stud earrings have a rich and fascinating history that spans centuries and cultures. From ancient Egypt to modern times, stud earrings have evolved in terms of design, materials used, and cultural significance. Today, stud earrings remain a popular form of jewellery and are a versatile accessory that can be worn in a variety of ways. Whether you prefer classic and understated designs or bold and elaborate styles, there is a pair of stud earrings to suit every taste and style.

We offer a growing range of quality Sterling Silver stud earrings in attractive designs to complement our threader earring range. Threader earring fans very typically have a double lobe piercing (and often other piercings!), and therefore need attractive studs that help them build the perfect earring stack.

We find most quality ear studs in the UK are overpriced. Even budget retailers will typically charge up to £10 for a very basic pair of studs, while the high street brands range for between £15 and £30 a pair. We price our studs as an 'add-on' and we are able to do this because we do not supply them in fancy gift boxes (you can see our pretty packaging here), neither do we have a glossy high street store for you to wander around!

We hope this small range is a welcome addition to the collection. Keep an eye out as we add more designs here!
